Kung-fu workshop at SCRF 2023 encourages young visitors

to train body and mind

Martial arts lessons celebrates ‘Train Your Brain’ theme this year
at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival 2023

When we put our bodies through the gruelling discipline of martial arts, it helps us train
minds as well, noted a Kung-fu instructor while explaining the need for such an activity
during a workshop at the on-going 14th annual edition of Sharjah Children’s Reading
Festival (SCRF 2023) at the emirate’s Expo Centre.

Organised by Little Legends, an institute based out of Motor City in Dubai, the Kung-fu
workshop is among others conducted in various disciplines, including kickboxing,
football, basketball and others. The vision for Little Legends is to catch them young as
they focus on children in the age group of 2 to 9 years.

“We teach the children a few techniques in Kung-fu like how to deliver a forceful kick,
but it is important to do stretching first, then some fun and even a bit of recovery
towards the end. That ensures there is no pain or sore muscles later,” says coach
Youseef Elsebaey Mohammed, who is also an ace swimming instructor.

“A few of my friends go for Kung-fu and I have been thinking about Karate since the
school break last month,” said Anwar Ahmed, 9, a young participant. “After this session,
I will compare and decide, but this was fun.”

There are 1,732 events at the SCRF, which will be led by 457 authors, artists,
publishers, illustrators, and experts from 66 countries. The event runs until May 14.
