Waigaon Turmeric, native to the Waigaon region of Wardha district in Maharashtra, is a
GI-tagged turmeric variety distinguished by its high curcumin content (6-12%), rich
aroma, and deep golden color. Cultivated traditionally without the use of harmful
chemicals, this turmeric thrives in the region’s fertile black cotton soil, making it a
symbol of purity and sustainability.
Its high curcumin concentration gives Waigaon Turmeric powerful anti-inflammatory,
antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-carcinogenic properties. It has long been used in
Ayurvedic and traditional medicine to:

Boost immunity and overall wellness
Support liver and digestive health
Manage joint pain and arthritis
Aid in healing wounds and skin conditions
Improve respiratory health and reduce symptoms of colds and infections
With rising global demand for natural and wellness-driven products, Waigaon Turmeric
stands out as a premium export for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and organic
food sectors, combining heritage with health benefits.

APEDA
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority
(APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is
dedicated to promoting the export of Indian agricultural and processed food products.
As part of its mandate, APEDA provides financial and technical support to exporters,
especially under its First Time Export Promotion Scheme, which aims to encourage
new exporters and promote niche Indian products in global markets.
For the export of GI-tagged Waigaon Turmeric, APEDA extended crucial support by
covering logistics, certification, and promotional expenses under this scheme. This
assistance enabled Universe Exports, in collaboration with EFICCI and local FPCs, to
successfully export Waigaon Turmeric to the United Arab Emirates on Gth May 2025,
marking a significant milestone for Indian farmers entering the global wellness market.
